Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG (2018) Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG New engine, new transmission, new all-wheel drive, new exterior and interior design: On the S63 4MATIC+ (combined fuel consumption: 8.9 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 203 g/km), Mercedes-AMG has honed the driving dynamics and looks further.
The Mercedes-AMG S63 has been the undisputed leader of the high-performance luxury sedan market for quite a few years, and that’s not going to change very soon.
Comfort In. The 2018 Mercedes-AMG S63 is a palatial performance coupe that combines the elegance of the Mercedes-Benz S560 with the rowdy accelerative aptitude of the Mercedes-AMG GT R. It’s a delightful idiosyncrasy.

For 2018, the S63 uses Mercedes-AMG’s biturbocharged 4.0-liter V8 – you know, the one from the AMG GT – tuned to 603 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. And before you go all “there’s no replacement for displacement” on me, know that this smaller engine has 26 more horsepower and doesn’t lose a smidge of torque.
But does that extra power, upgraded transmission, and improved all-wheel drive actually make the refreshed S63 a better performer? We took a new 2018 Mercedes-AMG S63 to our test track to find out.

On paper, the horsepower infusion edges the S63 further from the non-AMG, V-8–powered S-class (now called S560 and using a detuned, assembly-line-built version of the same 4.0-liter engine) and closer to the massively more expensive S65, whose 621-hp twin-turbocharged V-12 lopes into 2018 unchanged.
The updated S-Class, including this S63 variant, should bow in 2017 as a 2018 model. It will be followed a year later by the updated S-Class Coupe and S-Class Cabriolet models.
